A lot has been reported in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the smoking ban in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. However will the net variation of this traditional game offer a escape, or might it not compare to its land based equivalent?
Bingo is an ancient game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game of late had undergone a recent comeback in appeal with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlours instead of the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the enacting of the smoking ban across United Kingdom.
No more will enthusiasts be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public location will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most common locations where people like to puff on cigarettes.
The results of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlours. Profits have plunged and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Certainly they have not cast aside this familiar game?
The answer is online. Gamblers realize that they can bet on bingo using their computer while enjoying a beverage and cig and still enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.
Of course playing online is unlikely to replace the communal portion of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
