Much has been reported in the papers recently concerning the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the anti smoking law in Britain. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However does the internet adaptation of this classic game provide a escape, or will it never compare to its real life peer?

Bingo is an familiar game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had seen a recent resurgence in appeal with younger people opting to visit the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to change with the introduction of the cigarette ban throughout United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time marking numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public location will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored areas where folks like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo parlours. Profits have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they haven’t deserted this age old game?

The answer is on the web. Players are now realizing that they can bet on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and smoke and in the end, enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the internet could never replace the communal part of going down to the bingo hall, but for a group of men and women the law has left many bingo players with little choice.
