Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. This is owing to the fact that the American Indian bands of Oklahoma have provided Bingo sessions for many years. Patrons from many of the neighboring states get in passenger cars and travel into Oklahoma to play Bingo over the weekends.
The 1988 IGRA was introduced after a precedent setting decree by The U.S. Supreme Court just the prior year. Since that time, twenty three of the 39 Amerindian tribes located in Oklahoma have opened bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma Indian tribes to take advantage of the gambling restrictions, and today run ten gambling dens of their own. Bingo is the game on which the above-mentioned gambling dens were founded. computerized games like slot machines weren’t authorized, since they are believed to lead to gambling dependency more than bingo.
In recent years, Oklahoma rules has altered to allow for big American Indian wagering gambling halls. You will now see Amerindian casinos with slots, video poker and twenty-one tables. Craps and roulette are not yet allowed in the American Indian casinos as of yet, although this is only a matter of time. No one can say with what having different casino games in the bingo parlors will do for the appeal of bingo.
