Much has been written in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit as a result of the cigarette ban in Britain. Conditions have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive tax cuts to assist in keeping the industry alive. But can the online adaptation of this quintessential game provide a reprieve, or will it not compare to its land based relative?

Bingo is an established game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had experienced a recent increase in popularity with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the anti smoking law throughout UK.

No more will enthusiasts be able to smoke at the same time marking numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public area will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite areas where folks enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlours. Numbers have dropped and the business is absolutely fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Certainly they have not forgotten this classic game?

The answer is on the net. Gamblers realise that they can participate in bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and cig and in the end, have a chance at massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course playing online can never replace the communal aspect of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the rules have left a good many bingo players with little option.
