A lot has been stated in the papers not long ago about the bingo industry singing the blues because of the anti smoking law in England. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive aid to assist in keeping the industry alive. However can the online version of this quintessential game offer a escape, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar kin?
Bingo is an ancient game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had experienced a recent comeback in acceptance with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo halls in place of the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti smoking law all over UK.
Players will no longer be permitted to smoke while marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public place will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite areas where players like to puff on cigarettes.
The results of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo halls. Profits have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they have not forgotten this classic game?
The answer is on the web. Gamblers are now realizing that they can wager on bingo using their computer while enjoying a cocktail and cig and still have a chance at massive prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.
Of course betting on online is unlikely to replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the law has left a lot of bingo players with no option.
