An abundance has been written in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a result of the smoking ban in England. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. But can the net version of this quintessential game offer a lifeline, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar peer?

Bingo has been an age old game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game of late had witnessed a recent comeback in popularity with younger men and women opting to visit the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the enacting of the smoking ban throughout England and Wales.

No more will gamblers be allowed to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public locations will not be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite areas where players enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Profits have plummeted and the industry is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Certainly they have not cast aside this classic game?

The answer is on the net. Players know that they can gamble on bingo using their computer while enjoying a drink and cigarette and still enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course wagering on on the net can never replace the social aspect of going over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
