A lot has been written in the papers not long ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues because of the anti smoking law in Britain. Conditions have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. However will the online version of this traditional game provide a salvation, or might it not compare to its land based peer?
Bingo is an classic game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game of late had experienced a recent increase in appeal with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the smoking ban around England and Wales.
Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite locations where many people enjoy smoking.
The results of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo halls. Profits have dropped and the industry is literally fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Certainly they have not deserted this established game?
The answer is on the internet. Gamblers are now realizing that they can bet on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a beer and cigarette and in the end, enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.
Of course betting on on the net could never replace the communal part of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of players the rules have left many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
