A lot has been written in the press recently regarding the bingo industry being hit because of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However does the online variation of this traditional game provide a reprieve, or will it never compare to its land based opposite?
Bingo is an familiar game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had experienced a recent increase in appeal with younger people opting to go to the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the cigarette ban around UK.
Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most popular areas where players enjoy smoking.
The results of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo halls. Players have dropped and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Obviously they haven’t cast aside this familiar game?
The answer is on the web. Gamblers realise that they can bet on bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and cig and in the end, enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.
Of course gambling on on the web is unlikely to replace the communal portion of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo players with no alternative.
