Much has been stated in the press not long ago about the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge aid to assist in keeping the industry afloat. However can the web version of this classic game provide a salvation, or will it never compare to its bricks and mortar relative?
Bingo has been an classic game normally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had experienced a recent increase in popularity with younger people opting to hit the bingo halls rather than the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the anti cigarette law all over UK.
No longer will players be permitted to puff on cigarettes while marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favored places where folks enjoy smoking.
The effects of the anti smoking law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the industry is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they have not forgotten this familiar game?
The answer is on the net. Gamblers realise that they can enjoy bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beer and cig and in the end, enjoy huge prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.
Of course gambling on on the net is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of people the law has left a number of bingo players with no option.
