An abundance has been talked in the papers just a while ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the anti smoking law in the UK. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big tax breaks to help keep the businesses alive. However will the online version of this traditional game provide a salvation, or might it in no way compare to its land based relative?

Bingo has been an familiar game normally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game lately had seen a recent comeback in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the anti smoking law throughout UK.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke while marking off their numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favorite areas where players enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo halls. Numbers have dropped and the business is literally fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they have not given up on this established game?

The answer is on the internet. Players realize that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and cig and in the end, enjoy big cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course gambling on online will never replace the social part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the governing edicts have left a number of bingo players with little choice.
