A lot has been stated in the press just a while ago about the bingo industry struggling as a result of the anti smoking law in the UK. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the industry afloat. However can the web variation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or will it not compare to its real life relative?

Bingo is an established game normally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game lately had experienced a recent increase in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a Saturday night. All this is about to change with the introduction of the anti smoking law all over UK.

Players will no longer be able to smoke whilst marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public areas will not be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite locations where folks enjoy smoking.

The results of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they have not forgotten this ancient game?

The answer is online. People realize that they can participate in bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a beverage and fag and still have a chance at big jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on on the internet could never replace the social portion of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
