Much has been talked in the papers not long ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big aid to help keep the industry afloat. However does the web version of this quintessential game provide a salvation, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar kin?

Bingo is an established game normally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game of late had witnessed a recent increase in acceptance with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo parlours rather than the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the cigarette ban across England and Wales.

No longer will enthusiasts be permitted to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most common areas where many people like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the industry is literally struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they haven’t cast aside this established game?

The answer is on the net. People are now realizing that they can wager on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a drink and cig and still enjoy big prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the web is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of men and women the law has left a lot of bingo players with little choice.
