Much has been stated in the papers just a while ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the anti cigarette law in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive tax breaks to assist in keeping the businesses alive. But does the online version of this classic game provide a lifeline, or might it in no way compare to its real life peer?
Bingo is an familiar game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had experienced a recent return in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo parlours instead of the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the anti smoking law around UK.
No longer will gamblers be permitted to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most common places where people like to puff on cigarettes.
The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they have not cast aside this age old game?
The answer is online. Players are now realizing that they can wager on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and smoke and still enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course playing on the internet is unlikely to replace the social part of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little option.
