Oklahoma has for a long time been synonymous with Bingo. This is because the Native bands of Oklahoma have operated Bingo sessions for many years. Clients from all of the neighboring states get in vans and head over to Oklahoma to wager on Bingo for the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) followed a landmark decision by The U.S. Supreme Court the year before. From that time, twenty three of the 39 Native bands of Oklahoma have introduced bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma Amerindian tribes to take advantage of the gaming rules, and today run 10 gambling dens of their own. Bingo was the game on which these gambling dens were founded. Electronic games such as slots weren’t allowed, because they’re believed to lead to gambling problems more than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma governing edicts have altered to allow for gigantic Indian wagering casinos. You will now discover Indian gambling halls with slot machines, video poker and blackjack tables. Craps and roulette are not yet authorized in the American Indian gambling halls as of yet, although this is simply a waiting game. Nobody can authority whether having different casino games in the bingo houses will do for the popularity of bingo.
