Much has been stated in the papers just a while ago concerning the bingo industry struggling as a result of the anti smoking law in Britain. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry afloat. However does the internet version of this quintessential game offer a reprieve, or will it in no way compare to its land based kin?

Bingo has been an enduring game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game lately had undergone a recent increase in popularity with younger members of society opting to visit the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the introduction of the cigarette ban around Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public locations will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most popular locations where many people enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo halls. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Obviously they haven’t abandoned this age old game?

The answer is on the internet. People are now realizing that they can play bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and cig and in the end, enjoy big jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course betting on on the net is unlikely to replace the collective part of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
