Much has been talked in the papers not long ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the anti smoking law in the UK. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax breaks to help keep the industry afloat. However can the web variation of this classic game present a escape, or will it not compare to its real life equivalent?
Bingo has been an enduring game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game lately had witnessed a recent increase in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo halls instead of the clubs on a Saturday night. All this is about to change with the enforcement of the anti smoking law all over UK.
No more will enthusiasts be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common locations where folks enjoy smoking.
The results of the anti smoking law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Profits have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Of course they haven’t cast aside this familiar game?
The answer is online. People realize that they can participate in bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a drink and cig and in the end, enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course wagering on on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left many bingo players with little alternative.
