Oklahoma has long been analogous with Bingo. That is because the American Indian bands of Oklahoma have provided Bingo games for ages. Patrons from each of the neighboring states get in trucks and travel into Oklahoma to enjoy Bingo on the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) became law after a precedent setting decision by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year prior. Since that time, 23 of the 39 American Indian tribes of Oklahoma have introduced bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma Native tribes to take advantage of the betting rules, and today operate ten casinos of their own. Bingo is the game on which the above-mentioned casinos were founded. Electronic games like slot machines were not allowed, since they are believed to contribute to gambling dependency more than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma rules have changed to permit big Native gambling gambling halls. You’ll now find Native casinos with slot machines, video poker and chemin de fer tables. Craps and roulette are not yet allowed in the Indian casinos yet, but this is just a matter of time. No one can say whether having different casino games in the bingo parlors will do for the popularity of bingo.
