A lot has been talked in the press not long ago about the bingo industry struggling because of the smoking ban in Britain. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But does the web variation of this quintessential game offer a lifeline, or might it in no way compare to its land based equivalent?
Bingo has been an familiar game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game recently had witnessed a recent increase in popularity with younger members of society opting to go to the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a weekend. All this is about to change with the introduction of the anti smoking law all over UK.
Players will no longer be permitted to smoke while marking off their numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public locations will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favorite locations where folks like to puff on cigarettes.
The results of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlours. Numbers have dropped and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Certainly they haven’t given up on this enduring game?
The answer is on the net. Gamblers know that they can enjoy bingo from their computer while enjoying a drink and smoke and still enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.
Of course playing on the net will never replace the communal portion of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
